Investment Management Team

Plena’s investment team and operational management have a very strong track record. Managers of operational investments are hand-picked after a rigorous selection process to execute fast and efficient implementation of agreed strategies. Where possible, Plena tries to form a long-term relationship with managers who can take on other assignments after concluding an existing turnaround.

Karl Fässler – Chairman, Plena Group

Mr. Fässler has worked with Plena for over 10 years as Senior Advisor for tax and structural related issues. His extensive network and expertise enables Plena to find workable and efficient solutions to our group and financing structures wherever we operate. Mr. Fässler was previously finance minister in one of Switzerland’s cantons.

Marc Lamesch – Advisor, Plena Group

Mr. Lamesch is one of the most esteemed experts in International accounting in Luxembourg and can, with his network, assist the Chairman in finding optimal structural solutions. Mr. Lamesch is long time serving board member in the Plena Group and his contribution to its growth has been highly valuable.

Sami Mathlouthi – Investment Analyst 

Mr Mathlouthi joined Plena during 2011. He holds an ACCA in accounting. Mr Mathlouthi joins Plena from Majid Al Futtaim Group, Dubai/Tunisiaas their Financial Manager.  Mr Mathlouthi’s experience in MENA region, international accounting standards and financial due diligence has over the years enabled him to develop a strong network in MENA region. Mr Mathlouthi, as Investment Analysts, is responsible for financial analysis, due diligence of investment opportunities as well as MENA and Africa region.

Mattias Sjoborg – Senior Advisor, Investments

Mr. Sjoborg began his career at RMC PLC where he led teams in the restructuring of group operations. He joined Plena Group 2001 and went on to lead teams through due diligence, negotiation and restructuring of a large Eastern European privatization. Mr. Sjoborg has now close to 15 years of investment experience in origination, due diligence and structuring cross border transactions related to privately held companies and privatizations in predominantly emerging markets. Mr. Sjoborg has an MBA degree from IMD Lausanne, Switzerland.

Christer Sundstrom – Senior Advisor, Investment Companies

Christer Sundstrom joined Plena 2008. He was previously CEO of Nordkalk (third largest lime product producer in the world) and part of the lead team of the leveraged buyout of Nordkalk where he created return for the shareholder in excess of 20% IRR. Christer is today a vital part of Plena’s vision to build a strong building material / mineral group with both his experience and network.  

Pengfei Xiao – Head of Investment  Analysts

Mr. Xiao joined Plena during the beginning of 2010. He holds an ACCA in accounting. Mr. Xiao joins Plena from a renowned accounting practice where he was responsible for the firm’s large clients. Mr. Xiao’s expertise is in international accounting standards and financial due diligence and has over the years developed a strong network in China. Mr. Xiao, as Head of Investment Analysts, is responsible for consolidation reports, financial analysis, due diligence of investment opportunities as well as investment opportunities in Far East Asia.
